I was doing mostly school pix (pre-school/daycare shoots) & getting some family shoots by putting adverts in with the order forms. I had a bit of a breakdown last summer & closed up shop. Called all my school clients & told them I wouldn't be in business anymore. Long story short I missed the kids & shooting. So I'm starting from scratch basically. I've put the website back up (still needs some updating), got a facebook page that I regularly post & add new pix to, and put up some ads on craig's list (I was a bit desperate), but I've been unable to get a paying customer. I've updated my yahoo, yelp, twitter & google profiles as well as linked-in & manta.
I'm not sure where else to advertise. I was thinking about putting an ad in a magazine geared towards parents. I'm getting nowhere with FB & it's like pulling teeth to get current fans to suggest me to their friends. I'm convinced that word of mouth doesn't exist in my world. LOL. I've also been considering doing "Portrait Parties". I've got a couple of friends that say they'll have one, but it seems similar to the school shoots - lots of work for little return.
Does anyone have any suggestions about how to get clients that will actually give me money? Has anyone had success with the google or facebook ads? I've got to get some income coming in from this. Hubby's working two jobs and I think his wonderful supportive nature is waning.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Website is cute... I think you need a gallery so that people can see more examples.
Have you tried going to the schools and leaving brochures at the office... and what about senior pics?
Also... in regard to your website... the biggest advice I can give you is SEO, SEO, SEO!!! It is so important to work on it repeatedly. Most folks looking for photography are looking on the web... you want to work on getting to that first page. Make sure you map your business with Google and with Bing.
